Do I need bridal prep photographs?

Q. I'm not sure whether I should have photographs taken while I'm getting ready on the morning of our big day. What do bridal preparation photos usually cover, and is it worth paying the extra?

A. Mark and Rachel Sloane says: The morning of the wedding is a really exciting time, and usually one filled with emotional, crazy and precious moments. Capturing these makes a great addition to the wedding album.
The dress, the shoes and jewellery would all be photographed, in addition to the final touches of hair and make-up, getting dressed and making your way to the car. It is also a great time for the photographer to take extra shots of you with your parents and bridesmaids before the wedding, which gives you more time after the ceremony to relax and enjoy your day.
It?s also nice for your groom to look back at these pictures after the day, just as it is interesting for you to see what the guys were up to before you arrived.
Bridal preparation photos aren't for everyone, particularly if you are nervous enough already. But for some, they enhance the wedding day experience and provide the beginning of the story of the day.

What can we do about our photos if it rains?

Q. I'm getting married in November and I'm really worried that rain could ruin my photographs. Can we still have good pictures if it's wet?

A. Mark and Rachel Sloane says: Mark and Rachel say: Firstly, a good wedding photographer will have experience in all weather conditions, from bright sunshine through to rain, hail and snow. If you are concerned, ask your photographer to show you examples of weddings they've photographed where the weather has been less than perfect - this should put your mind at ease.
Secondly, you can't control the weather so try not to worry about it. However, making sure that there are umbrellas to hand and that your venue has an area inside which is suitable for photographs will all help with the smooth running of the day.
By getting married in November, you run a higher risk of bad weather, but even in the summer months you can be unlucky. By assuming you'll be inside for your photographs, you can't be disappointed. If you can go outside, then this is a bonus.

Petal power

Q. We love the classic confetti shot, but we're not sure which would look better: rose petals or paper confetti. Does one work better than the other?

A. Mark and Rachel Sloane says: Rose petals are heavier so they fall quicker, which means there is less time to take the pictures, but on the plus side they are often bigger and have a stronger depth of colour. Paper confetti also looks great, but this works best if it's a still, dry day. Really, it's down to personal preference.
Remember you should always buy biodegradable confetti, which will probably be stipulated by the church or venue, and be aware that if confetti gets wet it could stain your dress.
It's also important to check whether you are allowed to throw confetti inside or outside your venue, as some prefer to have it thrown inside.
Confetti shots tend to be one of the favourites, as they truly capture natural smiles, surprise and happiness. If you can, remember to try to enjoy the moment, and smile and laugh naturally rather than duck down and hide your face from the confetti - this will ensure a great photo.
